STAR TREK: MOVIE MEET UP, THE RESULTS ARE IN!!

Ladies and Gentlemen (…or maybe just ladies, IDK); I think the poll for deciding the Great Star Trek Re-viewing has been opened long enough. THE RESULTS, IF YOU PLEASE:

EDITED 6/1 WITH FINAL DETAILS

IF YOU HAVE JUST FOUND OUT ABOUT THIS WEE LITTLE SOIREE INTO THE FANNISH, DON'T PANIC, OF COURSE YOU CAN COME, MORE THE MERRIER, ETC ETC ETC.

BE SURE TO KEEP TABS ON THIS ENTRY, FOR LAST MINUTE UPDATES/ANNOUNCEMENTS/PLAN CHANGES.

OK MY FELLOW BAMFs. It's been a long time coming, but this is it.

THE GQ MOTHERFUCKING NEW YORK MEET UP DETAILS.

This is your captain speaking, and bbs, prepare yourselves for a day of Star Trekkin' debauchery the likes of which the world has never seen.

I've only one question for you: are you ready to boldly go where no man's gone so awesomely before?? WELL???? ARE YOU?????

First off: if you need my cell phone number, drop me a comment/pm asking for it. If you run into any problems, get lost, have questions, need traveling advice etc, etc, etc, you can bet your ass you can give me a call.

And now: our mission perimeters:

1) PRE MOVIE FOOD AND DRINK:

We'll meet up at The Irish Rogue (356 W 44th St, Btwn 8th & 9th Ave) at 3 pm. This is a restaurant/bar, and I have fond memories of it from Browncoats NYC…before they got themselves booted from the place. (…still don't know how THAT happened). I recall the food being good, and the drinks being reasonable. I figure this is a good place for everyone to meet up as there won't be any under-age issues.

Of course, you are under NO OBLIGATION to come and geek out with your fellow fans before the movie, but REALLY—would you deny yourself the joy of basking in the mutual adoration of Trek with like-minded folks? (I personally think there should be dramatic readings of the ST GQMF macros, but that's just me)

2)SRS BIZNESS AKA THE MOVIE

We will migrate from the Irish Rogue to the theater at approximately 5:45pm.

The theater is AMC EMPIRE 42 on 42nd street btw 7th and 8th ave.
The movie time is 6:30 pm.

I figure that gives us plenty to time to get in, get settled, and get good seats/be generally obnoxiously geeky in the theater itself. Of course, feel free to purchase your ticket beforehand.

3) THE AFTER GLOW, THE FIGURATIVE CIGERETTE, OR, THE AFTER-MOVIE HANGING OUT
After the movie, you can either feel free to go your separate ways, or continue with the geek-gasm The Dead Poet on 450 Amsterdam Ave, btw 81st and 82nd streets. This would mean taking the 1 subway to the 79th street stop and walking north 2 blocks and east 1 block. Ending...well, whenever really. Maybe if I'm really lucky it'll end when I get into a bar fight and end up getting dared to do better by Captain Pike…

*blink blink*

Well, that's about it. So far it looks like we've got some 23 people coming (which is AMAZING, guys, so YOU'D BETTER SHOW)! So, spread the word! Bring a friend! Bring a camera! (I know I'm bringing mine *evil grin*) Bring a…flask? (…Which I TOTALLY COULD too…hrum…)

Geek Out.

I AM SO THERE!

I went to school around 9th ave--I don't drink, but I know there's a place called Rudy's Bar & Grill on 9th that has free hot dogs. *shrug*

Unless I'm being really forgetful, I'm pretty sure I'll be there.

[identity profile] unavee.livejournal.com 2009-05-27 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
..forgetful as in I don't remember any other plans on the 6th, not forgetful like I'll forget to go D:

[identity profile] topazera.livejournal.com 2009-05-27 06:38 am (UTC)(link)
Totally in! Prepare to get your nerd on, people. I don't have any ideas for drinks around there but could we all migrate via subway if no one comes up with a good hangout?

[identity profile] ink-n-imp.livejournal.com 2009-05-27 02:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, there's nothing I like better than questing for a place to drink. Though, we should be able to find something around 9th ave. I know WAAAAY too many theater people who go to that neck of the woods to drink. Though, as a below-14th street girl myself, I AM taking they're word on it.

Sup dogs, I don't know you guys, but I am totally going to come to this meet-up, since I just tried to make an NYC meet-up post, and was all like, OH SHIT, THERE IS ONE ALREADY.

So as for food: Someplace in the theatre district is probably our best bet. I think that this place: Valhalla (http://www.yelp.com/biz/valhalla-new-york) looks awesome, and they HAVE PICNIC TABLES so it should be good for groups. Except they don't serve food, they just serve beer. That's kind of lame. I don't know.

OH OH OH! There's also The Dead Poet (http://www.thedeadpoet.com/ordereze/default.htm), which has been a fandom meet-up spot before, and they actually serve food. It's on the Upper West Side and totally worth the trek (I live in Brooklyn).

So hi, I'm Chloe.

I WAS ON PLANNING THIS MEET UP SHIT LIKE KIRK ON AN ORION GIRL.

Yea, I know that past 9th ave there lives the cheaper eats/drinks/drinking holes. The trick of course is figuring out where can handle a group, and what won't break the bank. I'm almost tempted to take a long walk one again after work and troll the area looking for what might work. PFFT ITS' NOT LIKE I HAVE A LIFE.

SAAAAAAAAY...I like the sound of that Dead Poet place, but i donno if it's a good meet up place before hand...though do you think it would be a good place to head to after wards since the night will still be young and we may want to continue the festivities?

Me and my Incredible Social Awkwardness will be there. BE PREPARED.

Once we've been able to choose a show time, should we purchase tickets in advance in order to make sure that we each have one for that particular show? (I know, I know, there's no reason they wouldn't have enough at the box office, it's a pretty busy area, especially on a weekend, and I'm pretty sure the rest of NYC has noticed that Star Trek would be an excellent viewing choice. Just saying.

As far as drinks...SOMEWHERE CHEAP. Maybe we can crash a happy hour. Maybe we'll find a place that's cheap AND crash it's happy hour. Yes.

[identity profile] ink-n-imp.livejournal.com 2009-05-27 01:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I LOVE INCREDIBLE SOCIAL AWKWARDNESS. IT IS DELICIOUS.

Well, exact times to that theater (hell, to ALL the theaters I checked!) are only available to like, June 6th, so you can't actually order them for June 6th yet. The minute the times are available, I'll message you all/edit this post with the info. I'm shooting for as close to 6/6.30 as I can, I figure that gives everyone enough time to get into the city from where ever they may be coming from, gives us lushes enough time for a convivial and medicinal raising of a glass together before hand (and hell, for general hanging out before hand) AND it gives everyone enough time to get back home right after the movie if they want to call it a night.

...ALSO I don't remember if you even CAN order tiks beforehand at this theater, but this used to be my go to place for geekery, and if we get there 30 min beforehand there shouldn't be a ticket issue...and even if there is, I WILL MOVE HEAVEN AND EARTH TO GET PEOPLE IN. I'VE DONE IT BEFORE AND AT OPENING NIGHT SHOWINGS, I CAN DO IT AGAIN.

AFFIRMATIVE about the somewhere cheap. I'm asking everyone I know what they know of the area, I know a shit ton of my theater friends have their favorite watering holes around 9th, and as they are as poor as me, it should be reasonable. BUT TOTALLY KEEP YOUR EARS PEELED. HIT ME WITH SUGGESTIONS. THE NEEDS OF THE MANY ARE HINGING ON THIS.

I was hoping for an afternoon viewing because my parents don't really like me in the city late (but I'm 21 years old, so they need to get over it eventually). I'm going to see if I can bring a friend though.

As for food, I know there's an Applebee's somewhere around there.
