Nella has a new favorite webcomic: The Thrilling Adventures of Lovelace and Babbage

And if you don't recognize either of those names, GOOD GOD, MAN, GET THEE TO WIKIPEDIA!
No time like the present for another meetup to watch TOS episodes from seasons 1 and 2, what? After all, these meetings don't plan themselves!

ET AL WHO CAME TO THE LAST ONE/WANTED TO COME BUT COULDN'T: Help me pimp the HELL out of this.

OH, and I know I said to chose 2 episodes each but...eh, that's way to hard. Just pick your favorites/ones your most interested in and try to keep it under like, 3-4 each?

EDIT 7/4: THE RESULTS ARE IN, AND POSTED HERE. GO THERE FOR THE MEET UP DETAILS, AND TO RSVP.

EPIC MEET UP POLL UNDER CUT. YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW EPIC IT IS. )

KARL URBAN THANKS YOU FOR YOUR TIME

Ladies and Gentlemen (…or maybe just ladies, IDK); I think the poll for deciding the Great Star Trek Re-viewing has been opened long enough. THE RESULTS, IF YOU PLEASE:

EDITED 6/1 WITH FINAL DETAILS

IF YOU HAVE JUST FOUND OUT ABOUT THIS WEE LITTLE SOIREE INTO THE FANNISH, DON'T PANIC, OF COURSE YOU CAN COME, MORE THE MERRIER, ETC ETC ETC.

BE SURE TO KEEP TABS ON THIS ENTRY, FOR LAST MINUTE UPDATES/ANNOUNCEMENTS/PLAN CHANGES.

*DRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUM ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLL* )
Because a lot of people seemed keen when it was mentioned elsewhere, I thought I'd take a poll about who wants to meet up to see Trek again in the NYC area.

EDIT AS OF 5/27/09:THE POLL IS CLOSED, SEE POST HERE FOR DETAILS. HOWEVER, YOU SHOULD STILL FILL OUT THE POLL FOR SHITS AND GIGGLES, I PUT A LOT OF LOGIC BULLSHIT THOUGHT INTO MAKING IT. HUMOR ME.

STARFLEET NEEDS YOU!!...to fill out this poll about a NYC meetup. AND THERE'S A REWARD FOR YOUR EFFORTS AT THE END. So even if you totally can't come thanks to geography/time, you should click this anyway, cause below is me trying to be clever.  )

AND SPREAD THE WORD TO YOUR MOTHAS EQUALLY GEEKTASTIC F-LISTS, THE MORE THE MERRIER.
They just think EVERYTHING out to INSANELY logical conclusions.

Like how Sherlock Holmes MUST have been a Vulcan.

It's not crazy, it's LOGIC.

I think I love this ALMOST as much as the "Watson was a Woman" speech Rex Stout (author of the Nero Wolfe mysteries) gave at a Holmesian dinner back in the 1910s.

THANK YOU FANDOM. YOU MADE MY DAY A HAPPIER ONE.
Seriously guys, every time I watch this, FUCKING CHILLS DOWN MY SPINE IN THE BEST POSSIBLE WAY.

'Cause I found mine last weekend.

Or, more truthfully, I made mine.

I'd never thrown ceramics on a wheel before, and last weekend while I was up a New Paltz, joined in the Holy Fellowship of Defeating Resident Evil 5, of Romping Madly through the woods with a camera and an overwhelming willingness to look silly in front of it, and of Quaffing Lots of the Mead and Cider and Beer, [livejournal.com profile] neo_ninja's roomie Jessie took us to the SUNY's art studio and taught us the ways of the clay and wheel.

And for my first time, I MADE A GRAIL.

Why Yes, I have found my Grail. It's right under this cut! )

IF it survives the kiln (I've been having nightmares of air bubbles. *shudder*), it shall emerge with a green glaze, and I shall bear it forth, and shall decorate it with gild and pearls and I shall dub it The Chalice of the Green Knight.

Because really, if you're GOING to be a dork, you may as well go all out.
Work-related:
1) In the 7 Circles of Archaeological Hell, the seventh circle consists of having to lay line of shovel tests through Staten Island catbriar four feet taller than you. Imagine thorns so sharp and long they scratch you through your jeans and long johns, AND at one point go through your BOOT. Allow me to repeat: A THORN WENT THROUGH MY BOOT.

You have NO idea what my legs look like right now. It's pretty horrific, and they sting like a mo'fo' when I take a shower.

Though, it is a relief to no longer be digging along the Belt Parkway. I like the silence of working in the woods under the Outerbridge Crossing. If it just wasn't for those DAMNABLE CATBRIARS!!!!

Because I need my dose of blasphemy this evening, holy Christ, my everlasting sympathies.

Real Life-related:
1) I'm going to be Oscar Wilde for Halloween!...well, I will, once I modify a coat of mine, and make myself a fabulously foppish purple vest and green cravat. And then on November 1st at a little shindig [livejournal.com profile] muneybags6 is hosting (themed "Saints and Demons: come as your best or worst!") I plan on going as Saint Lucy, with my eyes on a platter. I want to practice staring ahead with dark glasses on while I move my "eyes" to look at the people I'm talking too. I think it would be awesomely creepifying if I did it right.

2) I'm sitting on my grad school application for the March 31 deadline. Just didn't want to go to grad school this spring (assuming I would have gotten in in the first place).

3) My brother and I saw "Fuerza Bruta" on Saturday and it was AMAZING. It was like being in someone else's waking dream; one part nightmare, one part rave, one part "WTF that was AWESOME!". If you want to feel what's it's like to step into Wonderland, GO SEE THIS SHOW. You walk out of it and the rest of the humdrum world feels so much more magical. Just don't expect it to make any sense--just take it in and go for the ride. I mean, women swim in a clear pool as it's lowered within arm's reach of you. It's insane, but a good sort.

Internet-related:
1) Everyone. Go to thatguywiththeglasses.com. Watch the videos of my friend [livejournal.com profile] theborderpatrol a.k.a. the Nostalgia Chick. Proceed to laugh yourself silly. The Anastasia review is a particular favorite of mine (though I LOVE the one for Pocahontas. Oh...Pocahontas)

2)I...have so many things for the internet to finish writing/to think about writing. The deadline for [livejournal.com profile] thingsunwritten is nigh, and I need to finish my story about two gladiators. I have a slew of tables and prompts to start, much less finish ([livejournal.com profile] thousandtables and [livejournal.com profile] ink_twist being the big two)--

And NaNoWriMo Cometh.

I've an idea, but I've never down well with NaNo on even numbered years. I think I have a good idea for it this year, but...*sigh*

Other than that, my life is unexciting.
Me: *sitting at the table, using teh internets and minding my own business*

Brother: ZOMG BLAH BLAH BLAH TV GEEKERY BLAH BLAH NONSENSICAL NOT-EARTH LOGIC BLAH!

Me: *has heard none of the above. Alice had nothing on me when it comes to A World of Her Own*

Brother: .........blah?

Me: *Bliss! Internet bliss!*

Brother: *eyes narrows*

Me: *Oblivious bliss!--wtf, is that a HAND creeping over my screen?!?!* Eh?

*Brother cackles as he pokes my keyboard and blocks my screen*

Me: DUDE! GTFO!!!

Brother: MWHAHAHA I in ur Fortress o' Solitood, killing ur doodz!!--

Me: *shakes fist!* CUUUUUUUURSE YOU LEX LUTHOR!!!!!

And to make this post not a total waste...Oh Justin. How I love thee. In Middle School I SCOFFED at such a thought, I KNOW! But now...*happy sigh!*

How much of a geek do you have to be to completely halt a game of charades in order to explain to a camper the intricacies of playing D&D, and that is is NOT in fact a board game?

Camp is going well, and once again I have fallen into my camp time pattern of groping for things to do with the kids before they engulf me onstage. It is a CHORE getting kids with no desire to act or even really PARTICIPATE to play such fun theater games such as "Freeze" and "Superheroes" etc. You think they be get sick and tired of "Duck, Duck, animal!" and "Mafia" by now, but nothing seems to amuse them more. SIGH.

Luckily, we finally have a coffee maker in the kitchen now: I was three cups in before I could put my head down during Mafia without struggling to not fall asleep.

In other news )

Been spending some time with Wyatt lately, got to admit I miss the old boy on occasion. It's nice when having someone working on the same wavelengths as me, regardless of our geekiness and sidekick-ity. Between bouts of watching Full Metal Alchemist (Holy shit, guys, there IS SUCH A THING AS GOOD ANIME OUTSIDE OF MIYAZAKI!! I SWEAR!) and playing video games and RPG'ing with Steve and Dan, we have some good laughs, including one discussion about drama on our respective LJ's. His is all soul searching, and mine isn't, but I explained to him that was cause I saved all the angst for my journal. I then mentioned my disgust at my journal, at how melodramatic it is and how I never mention anything really happy or exciting, only whatever shit goes down.

As an example, I would like to present a short representation of a typical series of Antonella journal entries. (Artistic liberties have been taken.) )

One of these days, I just give up on journals all together, but for now, this is Nella, signing off!

So....once again, I used Lindsay's computer to scan my pictures. But, this time I scanned them all in one fell swoop, so I can stop having to do that. Lindsay, I swear to you your computer is not fucked in the slightest. It was working beautifully the whole time. In fact, I think me and the computer are finally starting to get along.

Anywho, this is a pic I've been wanting to scan for a LONG time. I drew this in the twilight days of our Powerpuff Phan RPG. This was back when [livejournal.com profile] angelspixy was MIA in the phic writing, so it was only me, [livejournal.com profile] singealiene, [livejournal.com profile] niftykracker and [livejournal.com profile] unkai writing. And....people were SERIOUSLY slacking with the posting.

So, I drew this and the plan was to email it as a warning. Alas, a lack of scanner thwarted me, and before I could get my hands on one, the Adventures of the PowerPuff Phans came to an end.

So, tada!!
