[livejournal.com profile] innocentsmith came up with this meme, and I thought it so wonderful I immediately yoinked it. It took far longer than it should of--I just couldn't narrow down my choices!!!

Six songs (with lyrics) that you'd read if they were novels.

1) "Pirates of the Saskatchewan" by Arrogant Worms

"Well I used to be a farmer, and I made a living fine.
I had a little stretch of land along the sea behind.
But times went by although I tried, the money wasn't there,
and the bankers came and took my land and told me fair is fair.
I looked for every kind of job the answer always no,
Hire you now they always laughed we just let 20 go
The government they promised me a measly a little sum
But I've got to much pride to end up just another bum,
Then I thought who gives a damn if all the jobs are gone,
I'm gonna be a pirate, on the river Saskatchewan!"

This merely proves that if it's a book about Pirates, I will read it. Besides, who wouldn't want to read a humorous, swashbuckling tale about Canadian river pirates? Just think of all the difficulties they would be forced to overcome! And you know the Caribbean pirates would NEVER take them seriously, dontchaknow.

2) "The Village Green Preservation Society" by The Kinks

We are the village green preservation society
God save donald duck, vaudeville and variety
We are the desperate dan appreciation society
God save strawberry jam and all the different varieties
Preserving the old ways from being abused
Protecting the new ways for me and for you
What more can we do
We are the draught beer preservation society
God save mrs. mopp and good old mother riley
We are the custard pie appreciation consortium
God save the george cross and all those who were awarded them
We are the sherlock holmes english speaking vernacular
Help save fu manchu, moriarty and dracula
We are the office block persecution affinity
God save little shops, china cups and virginity
We are the skyscraper condemnation affiliate
God save tudor houses, antique tables and billiards
Preserving the old ways from being abused
Protecting the new ways for me and for you
What more can we do
God save the village green.

What? I wanna read a book about a Village Green Preservation Society. But only if it's fun and quirky. Like, they wear bowlers and get upset when people thing they are connected with "A Clockwork Orange", or kept trying to make time for teatime, or play polo on old fashioned bicycles, try to develop a taste for brandy and cigars but fail miserably.

3) "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree" by KT Tunstall

Well my heart knows me better than I know myself
so I'm gonna let it do all the talking.
I came across a place in the middle of nowhere
with a big black horse and a cherry tree.

I fell in fear, upon my back
I said don't look back, just keep on walking.
when the big black horse that looked this way,
said hey lady, will you marry me?

This song seriously puts me in the mood for a fairytale placed in an American Western.

4) "Man for All Seasons (Johnny English)" by Robbie Williams

"Queen and country safe and sound
With villians six feet underground
And no one knows cause no one’s found
Any trace of a man for all seasons
Loves them and leaves them alone, so alone
And you and I wouldn’t have a clue
Who's doing what, why, when and who,
Up the creek with no canoe,
Watch out for the man for all seasons
Loves them and leaves them alone, so alone
But safe at home"

The funny thing is, I think this book has already been written. I think it's called The Scarlet Pimpernel. ;) But totally…this would be a "Spy" novel I'd read.

5) "I Put A Spell on You" by Screaming Jay Hawkins

You know what, the lyrics aren't nearly as creepy as the song itself, so forgo the lyrics and just listen to the damn thing. Definitely a horror/suspense/ghost story tale, with LOTS of dark humor too it. Whatever the story would be though, it would have to send chills up and down my spine, and put a wicked grin on my face.

6)"Wake Pig" by 3

Wake up, soldier
There's no dreams
Left in the dark
Save them
Save yourself
To the last breath
Never forget you could be over

Now my heart and mind are one
I look down at the blood on the ground
Tell me what I've done
And everywhere I see
The fire so high in the sky
Now we can't get free

This entire album should be the official soundtrack of a story [livejournal.com profile] halfingspy and I were working on ages ago. Bitten by the manga bugs, THIS was our "manga" story line--an apocalyptic war-torn world with all the memory erasing, obscene military abuses, double crossing superiors, general genetic fuckery, biomechanics, and rebellions one could want. Oh, and a quest for donuts. I have character sketches and plot outlines up the wahooze to prove it.

...and I'd totally read it.
