Luckily I don't have work tomorrow, so once I recover from the site from HELL, I will need to have a bitch fest about that SITE OF DOOM. A preview of my misery? I put a rusty nail through my boot. Luckily, it was too short to actually puncture my FOOT. Thank God for small favors, eh?

1. Reply to this post, and I will pick four of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon squee. Whoo!

Ok, I got this meme from both [livejournal.com profile] zekkass and [livejournal.com profile] swankyfunk, soooooo…

Picked by [livejournal.com profile] zekkass:

1)
This is a quote from a Patrick O'Brien "Jack Aubrey/Stephen Maturin" book who's name I cannot recall. If that means nothing to you, the movie Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World starring Russell Crowe and Paul Bettany was based off that series. If that still means nothing to you…you are DEAD to me.

Stephen Maturin is the ship's surgeon/English spy/naturalist/generally-unlikeably-if-it-wasn't-for-his-insane-love-for-Captain-Aubrey. He speaks more languages than any man has the right too, including Gaelic (as he is Irish), even though Gaelic is technically verboten in Napoleonic-era English navy.

I recall this being a scene with another spy or some such, and something happened, and they "Cursed with extreme violence…" etc etc.

…I really need to reread this series.

2)
This is a painting in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and I rather stumbled across her in the American Art section. This is the full portrait, and I an entirely in love with her because of the expression on her face, the quirk of her mouth, the pose, and the way she's holding the flower. The blurb in the museum claims the artist captured her "seductive" look, but good God, that is not the look of seduction, that's the classic "Oh, you've GOT to be KIDDING me!" look. My god, I want to write a STORY about this woman, seriously! She has more personality in a single painting that I think most people have in their lifetimes!

In my own musings, I've concocted a scene of the sitting of this portrait, where the artist kept saying all sorts of inappropriate things in an attempt to get her to pose "seductively", and by the end of the day, this is all he could get. And then when the finished product was revealed to family and friends, some had to bite back their laughter, while others had to hide their dismay.

The quote is from the Terry Prachett books; a plethora of his characters have said it when something extremely unlikely or insane was claimed by another character. I feel the sentiment fits nicely.

I love her so much, there's a banner version if her in my lj profile.

3)
Oh, YZMA!

This icon both covers my love for Disney's "The Emperor's New Groove" and for the character of Yzma. I mean, as I once told [livejournal.com profile] singealiene, any woman who can continuously snare men at least 40 years younger than herself WINS. And I do so love her evil genius, I really do.

4)
This really doesn't have anything to do with this icon, but once in high school, I can to the logical conclusion (and mind, I think I was bored out of my gourd in bible class or something) that Christ on the cross can be referred to as a fish on a stick (after all, Christ is symbolized by a fish, and he's on the cross, aka a giant fucking stick so…no? No takers? Yea, so it's not that clever. Or funny. Or even appropriate). Not to be outdone by this silly bit of blasphemy, soon afterwards I began to take great pleasure in shouting out "Christ on a cracker!" when in shock. There's just something so satisfying about it, more so than "Holy Shit". Kinda like saying "Balls!" or "Khan!" rather than "Shit" or "Fuck". Also, as I am Catholic (and we hold with the whole transubstantiation thing) Christ on a Cracker…you can nearly consider it a profession of faith…a very, very, VERY blasphemous profession…

Except, really, it would be more "Christ IS a cracker"…so nix that.

So, when I discovered it in icon form, I simply HAD to yoink it.

I think I seriously need this on a t-shirt or something.

This is a quote from G.K. Chesterton's Orthodoxy. I had been looking to get my mitts on a Chesterton-based icon for ages, but I just couldn't think of the right quote for it. Oh, I had plenty, but none of them seemed to be exactly what I wanted….until I found THIS icon (yoinked from [livejournal.com profile] kalquessa), and just had to made it mine and take it home and make it tea and call it George. It's just the sort of flippantly serious thing Chesterton was famous for saying, and is rather the way I live my life, as I am a rather foolish girl myself, but it's MY life, and I shall rule it and no one can take that sovereignty from me! ^_^

Never mind that I have a great love for "fool/jester" type characters in stories, and this quote fits WHY I love fool characters like a glove.

2)
I love Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry to wee little bits. I also love their sketch comedy to wee little bits. This is a scene from a sketch about two American business men called John and Peter, who drink heavily and say "DAMN" a lot, and one sketch they…
…you know what? Here's the Sketch. The bit starts at 2:09.

3)
You know what I love more than Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie? Stephen Fry as Jeeves, and Hugh Laurie as Wooster, in the BBC series Jeeves and Wooster. *swoons!*

This is from one of the episodes, where Jeeves, JEEVES of all people, has to masquerade as a female American writer. Never in the books, but HOT DAMN thank goodness it is in the series because it is AWESOME SAUCE.

4)
This combines two of my favorite things; Jack Davenport, Jack Davenport in BBC's "Coupling", and Commodore Norrington. OK, three things.

But this is episode, Jack Davenport's character Steve…well, his girlfriend finds his porn entitled "Lesbian Spank Inferno". "Lesbian Spank Inferno? I'm sure I have no idea what it is you are talking about" he tries to cover.

Of course, by the end of the episode, his character has to defend "Lesbian Spank Inferno" by claiming it's NOT porn, it's erotica…by explaining the movie's plot line. (and PLEASE watch til 6:30, THAT'S the beginning of my favorite bit)

Really, the point of the icon is everything's better with pirates. And Norrington (though not the 3rd movie Norrington).
