So, I was at [livejournal.com profile] mirroriste's place today after work; watching Trek, knitting, and generally hanging out. We were chatting about this and that, and in ANOTHER case of my world being AN INSANELY SMALL ONE, I came to the startling realization that I had run into her once LONG before [livejournal.com profile] ontd_startrek.

The Time was Summer 2008. The place was NY Comic Con. I was still living with my parents on Long Island, and that morning I had made plans for a lazy summer's day, one of pool and gardening. That was when I got the call from Lindsay; "If you can get to the Javits Center by 3 pm and be my camera bitch, I can get you into Comic Con for free. You could catch the Hellboy 2 panel!" said she.

With a quick shower and a mad dash to the train station, I made it to Comic Con in time! And after enjoying various panels and things, I paid my pound of flesh by being Lindsay's camera whore as she video-interviewed various people about their cosplay costumes for a website she was interning for.

[livejournal.com profile] mirroriste WAS ONE OF THE PEOPLE WE INTERVIEWED.

For the LIFE of me, I had been trying to figure out WHY her voice and face were so familiar! But as we discussed our respective fandom histories, she brought up that she had been in the Kingdom Hearts fandom, and a little light bulb went off in my head.

"Do you cosplay?" I asked. Yes. "Did you go to Comic Con?" Yep! "...Were you King Mickey Organization XIII style?" ...Yea?

THE INTERVIEW'S EMBEDDED BELOW! GO AND WATCH!! Clips of her are interspersed within the vid!!

OMG THE HELL? FANDOM DESTINY, STOP FUCKING WITH ME.

I love shit like that. I've had a bunch of those experiences -- it really is a small damn world out there. The best was RPing with a random girl a few years back and then finding out that she had been one of my internet BFFs in my very first RPG from when I was like 10.

HEHE, awesome!

I generally love it too, it just has a nasty habit of side-blinding me first in a "BWHA NO WAY" sorta way.

DUDE, I TOTALLY REMEMBER WALKING AROUND WITH LINDSAY AND BEING ALL "Oh, someone from Kingdom Hea--DUDE SHE'S DRESSED AS KING MICKEY, WE'RE INTERVIEWING HER NOW. NO NOW."

I think I played it cool though, once I dragged her over. ;)

By passing completely all the meet of your entry: Dude, you knit? I didn't know that.

I can knit and purl with the best of them!...just don't ask for anything outside a scarf ^_^;;

I REALLY want to learn how to knit a pattern though, cause I want a color appropriate scarf with a knitted starfleet insignia on the tail. CAUSE THAT WOULD BE AWESOME.

I might have thoughts on how that could happen. Let me let them percolate for a bit, and then we'll see.

In the mean time, are you on Ravelry? I just looked through their patterns database and they have a bunch of Trek patterns. This one looks somewhat like what you want, if you make a few modifications to make it color work and stretch into a scarf rather than a washcloth.

No! I didn't even know about Ravelry. WHEE NEW PLACE!

And say, that looks great! I'd want the Starfleet delta on the scarf end, so it be subtle, but AWESOME. But it should be TOO tricky to make it scarf length...

Thanks so much!

In a similar vein, Miri and I went to art camp together during Summer '06! At that point, of course, I was too busy plowing through the Aubrey/Maturin books to give much thought to anything even remotely related to other fandoms, but it was incredibly awesome to find out that we were going to the same ST meetup years later xD
