Probably the one place on the earth where "Jesus Christ Lord and Savior" is "Jesus Christ LAUD and Savior".

Got into Boston last night, ditched my dear old brother at his Percussion Festival at Berkeley College, and spent the night prowling around the North End. A week without my brother, and given free reign by my parents to drag them to every historical site known to mankind in the Boston area? BE STILL MY BEATING HEART.

Was duly terrified by the Trolley system, because I finally realized that all those bad dreams I've had about the NYC subway system (wherein the platform was the same level as the tracks and the platform is a triangle and something TERRIBLE happens, which results in me waking up) where ACTUALLY dreams about the Boston Trolley system. Go fig.

In New Hampshire today, visiting dad's sister. Wanting to post pictures of Boston, but alas, forgot the camera wire at home. Will just have to pic spam later.

Plan on dragging parentals on the 3-mile Freedom Trail tomorrow, but will have to refrain from snickering at the fact it is called "The Freedom Trail". What can I say, the word "Freedom" has been ruined for me ever since I saw Braveheart.

Random fact (or, what is passed for fact) of the day!: the Marquis De Lafayette is buried in France under soil taken from Bunker (or, make that Breed) Hill. That crazy, dorky Lafayette! Just can't help but love that man. ^_^

Hi. I added you as an lj friend, so I thought I'd drop in and say OMG BOSTON.

So. I work at the Old State House Museum, which is the Boston History Museum too. Best site on the trail, swear to god. XD Old South Meeting House can kiss my butt, dammit.

Anyway, when you go in look for John Hancock's coat and his wallet, tea from the tea party, one of the original Boston Massacre prints Pauly did, and the cups Sam Adams and John Hancock drank out of while in Lexington, and the favorite things exhibit. My favorite thing is the surgeon's saw. You should see the look on all the children's faces when I tell them what it was used for. :D

Enjoy your stay in Boston and keep an eye out for David McCullough! I heard he's been spotted in the city lately.

You'll have to keep us updated on what you do.

OMG BOSTON is RIGHT! ^_^

*friends back*

I was chomping at the bit myself to get to the Hancock/Clarke House in Lexington for bunny purposes, but after your description about what awauts at the Old State House Museum for good little history dorks like myself, I think a long meander in that direction is called for.

And oh lord. You never should have told me McCullough's been spotted in Boston lately. Good God. I don't know whether to print up a picture of him so I can find him, bow before him and thank him for John Adams (What a horrible book for a high schooler to have her life changed by, SERIOUSLY), or...er...not.

But yes, there will be continued updates. And at some points, PICTURES!! (not like they'llend up being anything you haven't seen, but they'll have my own special brand of commentary ^_^)

*imagines an actual Hancock puppet and giggles*

I'm very well! Keeping busy over the summer teaching tourists that the freedom trail is more than that line on the ground. XD Did school wrap up all nicely for you?

IT DID. And I am very glad to be out. Of course, I'll have to start worrying about how to get BACK into school for grad work, but those concerns are for the fall! ^_^ For now, I just want to worry about what books I'm going to read, what tours I'm going to give at the South Street Seaport Museum, and fandom-y things.

But LORD, I have so much to update about Boston; but it's been so damn HOT, and we've been out so much, I've barely had time to sit long enough to collect my thoughts. I intend to post tonight, however, with some thoughts (Well, more like the blubbering squees of the raving fangirl) about the freedom trail, and the Adams National Park site.

*gets too it!*

Nella! hope you're having a fantastic time! Since our quick and much needed catch up the other day, I've been thinking about places you might want to check out while up there... the restaurants in the North End are awesome, have you tried any yet? Be sure to stop by Mike's Pastry shop... you've probably seen people walking around with their typical looking white hat box (except the box contains not something so droll as a hat but a delicious pastry!) If you visit Cambridge, you can check out Longfellow's house (Craigie House - http://www.dlstewart.com/longfellow/CraigieHouse.htm), the site in Cambridge Common where Washington supposedly first gathered his troops for the Revolutionary War (I think it's called the "Washington Elm"), Widener Library (the undergrad library at Harvard) which holds two(!) Gutenberg Bibles, oh! and! Mr. Bartley's Burger Cottage (just known as "Bartley's" there)... you will love it. It's not a very fancy place, but if you're trekking out with just you and your broham in Harvard Square, it's definitely something I think you'd enjoy. Just avoid it at lunch hours, it'll be *packed* with people. Also Herrel's icecream parlor in Harvard Square is a converted bank (http://www.harvardsquare.com/directory.php?id=332&cat=), and really fun... if you're looking for more upscale dining, I kinda have no idea since I've only been to a few super-expensive places in the area. In Boston metro Laurel Grill and Bar is incredibly gorgeous -- we went there for Matt's graduation dinner and damn! really fantastic, insanely intricate dishes... (http://www.laurelgrillandbar.com/)... I also like Fire and Ice, a place where you pick out the food you want and bring it to this central grill in the middle of the restaurant and they cook it up for you with whatever flavors and sauces you choose. There's one in Boston and one in Harvard Square, I think.

where have you visited so far that you've liked? I'll try to think of other places..I can't wait to see pictures!

Fact: I know. Bc I lived there for three years.

lemme know if you need anything / info where to go.
