Storytime ceased abruptly when the picture book Eileen Issa was reading her 2 1/2-year-old son surprisingly ended with two men marrying and smooching.

So, it appears this is a fairy tale type story where the disgruntled queen decides her son will marry a princess. As it turns out, sonny boy has other plans, and marries a prince.

Parents have gotten their knickers in a twist; what else is new? HOWEVER:

"I just want kids to enjoy their innocence and their time of growing up," Jeff Issa said, explaining his persistence. "Let them be kids … and not worry about homosexuality, race, religion. Just let them live freely as kids."

Not WORRY about homosexuality, race, and religion? Fish on a Stick, maybe if you don't shelter the fuck out of them they won't HAVE too? OR, maybe their only worries will be wondering why OTHER people worry over something so SILLY.

I understand people protecting their kids from sexuality (beyond like kissing...) but seriously LOVE IS LOVE and it comes in many ways shapes and forms... (as long as it is s.s.c I am fine with it)...

And people are crazy!

Oh and do you know of any good places in the village (student budget) for dinner and a first date...any ideas? I need them ASAP

*snort* Good Lord, I hadn't even thought of it.

I dislike people thinking that oh, it's a kid's picture book, therefore it MUST reflect my ideals on what makes a good innocent bedtime story! heaven forbid the kiddies should read the original Snow White, or even the self sacrificing, original Little Mermaid.

I wonder what will happen though when they try to read the picture book about the two gay penguins that adopted an egg. Oh to be a fly on the wall for THAT one!

It's called "and tango makes three" and ironically, I saw it for the first time today in the front of Barnes and Noble and picked it up not knowing what it was and was wholly delighted. I think it's based on a real gay penguin couple.

If they're that concerned about the content, maybe they should read the book themselves before starting story time!

Ha, you'd THINK! I don't know about you, but I've been finding that the parents now a days who doth protest the most are the ones that don't pay attention to these things until, OH NOES!, it's too late, the story's been read and the kiddies are asking all sorts of uncomfortable questions.

...AAAAAAAAAAAND then they raise a shit storm that makes the rest of us shake our heads and wonder why they're so silly.

And on that note, and for something completely different...HOW ARE YOU?!?

I'm in Korea visiting my dad! I was wondering how long it would take for me to start going insane, and surprisingly I've lasted until a minor flare on day 3 (today)!

My sister Alina reads and watches everything her kids are exposed to beforehand. Last time I saw her she handed me a 400 page book to run through for Sabrina. They're not terribly conservative, but consider it a good practice. These people are too lazy to read through a picture book, but find the time to write angry letters to the board of directors.
