.....Who wants to come with me to get whacked by fake period weapons this Sunday?

It really was only a matter of time before I could no longer resist the siren call of the Society for Creative Anachronism. Well, we shall see what comes of this, but DUDE. I sortakinda can't wait.

In other news--I think my EYEBALLS are slightly SUNBURNED from working in the garden today. OW. OW OW OW. They won't stop BURNING. OW.

Well, at least the raspberries and strawberries have been moved to the new super!shiny!berry garden! Now I has one for veggies and another for berries! HUZZAH!

Now just need to find easy to construct raised beds (BITCH WE SHALL HAVE NO WEEDS THIS YEAR!! ON PAIN OF SERIOUS DEATH. WHICH IS TOTALLY NOT ANYTHING LIKE UN-SERIOUS DEATH.), a whole ton of compost (the stuff I've got going in the compost pile wasn't ready for this year...alas), germinate some seeds and wait for the weather TO FUCKING COMPLY TO MY YEOMAN FARMER/HOBBIT TENDENCIES.

IN OTHER, OTHER NEWS--my shoulders feel better after a day of manual labor. Wow. So desk job=intense physical pain, manual labor=less physical pain? NOT. FAIR.

Dude, I can't come this Sunday, but next Sunday? I am so there.

And thank CHRIST there is someone else on my flisty-flist who's got Hobbity tendencies - I've been muttering to myself in my backyard like a crazy person, cleaning shit up and being like "THIS YEAR I WILL HAVE TOMATOES, BITCHES." A friend of mine came over and complained that I completely hadn't left any room for the marijuana plants she was going to give me. MY FRIENDS ARE SUCK, YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE WHO UNDERSTANDS ME.

Also, constructing beds = way easy, I knocked off like half a dozen of them this weekend. Don't worry, you can do 'em no problem, even if you want to put plywood in the bottom (although I just lined them with weed-blocking cloth; works out pretty well either way).

Also we should totes do a hippie-veggie exchange this summer - is there something I can grow for you in exchange for some berries? Pleeeeeease? Apparently I'll have a great crop of pot in a few months!

SWEEEEEEEEEEEEET. I'll go this weekend, scout it out, and then yes, let the getting whacked by people who have probably been whacking people for a good long time commence!

(...Why, yes, I do have long-buried-but-not-dead-yet childhood aspirations to become a 'Knight'...why do you ask?)

Oh, and also...

*TEARS OF GRATITUDE* CHRIST ON A CRACKER, I'M NOT ALONE IN MY HALF-MAD NEED TO EAT THINGS GROWN ON MY OWN SWEAT, TEARS, AND OFTEN TIMES BLOOD.

(...those raspberries have fucking OBNOXIOUS thorns, yo)

I'm content with anything really (like, that special weed of the hobbit variety NUDGE NUDGE TOLKIEN YOU WEREN'T FOOLING ANYONE), and, to offer you, if all goes well with teh growing, my best crops are the raspberries and my figs. If you like figs, O.M.G. PLEASE. Take them off my hands, I CAN'T EAT THAT MANY FIGS, NO ONE HUMAN CAN.

Alas, both don't come in until August...but in the meanwhile, if my peas, string beans, and leafy greens (including swiss chard) come in nice and fruitful, it would be my pleasure to share! Let's just hope I won't be called away from my garden for A MONTH like last year, thereby quelling all my hopes and dreams of good things to eat.

(Seriously, mom/dad, weeding/watering NOT THAT TERRIBLE. It's actually sort of relaxing on a good day, especially in the late afternoon.)

And yea, the weed blocking cloth seems to work for other people, and as I have a shit ton of that still lying around from when I was shanghaied into slave labor for my mother in regards to a rock garden she wanted, I think it'll do nicely. And I was thinking of jury-rigging some sort of tall frame with netting for my peas and beans to grow up, cause HOLY COW last year they grew WAY TALLER than I expected, it was OBSCENE.

FIGS. FIIIIIIIIGS. I WANTS THEM PRECIOUS YES I DOES.

Which is to say, yes, I'd love to do an exchange - only it sounds like you're already growing all the stuff I'm going to try, b/c you actually know what you're doing and stuff. (And Swiss Chard! Thank goodness someone else out there understands its magical deliciousness.) And as for the hobbity weed, I am not brave enough to risk encarceration, even though the hilarity factor in growing weed between the peapods would be amazing.

But this is, honestly, the biggest relief - I've been kind of faking all of this gardening shenanigans for the past few weeks, it's going to be so awesome to have someone who actually knows stuff. And it sounds like things actually grew! And were, like, not the size of a walnut! So exciting!

Heh, yea, honestly I'd probably be too freaked out walking about with it in my pocket if we did a hand off anyway. Ah well, nothing like the sweet relief of legality, what?

But anywho, sometimes I get such big yields I have trouble finding people to take this food off my hands! Like my peas last year, had to resort to shelling and freezing the lot of them cause there was just WAY TOO MANY for one person to cook with. So, BOO YEA for having someone who won't mind a food dump ^_^

(AND YES SWISS CHARD IS MAGICALLY DELICIOUS ESPECIALLY WHEN COOKED WITH TOMATOES AND CHEESE FOR SRS)

...yea, don't be surprised when the garden lj posts really get going. And by all means, feel free to join the squee/tears-of-frustration/WTF-nature fest that usually ensues.
