Adventures in Prospective Property Owning

So...I'm looking at buying an apartment in Queens.

This apartment's lease is up in May, and what with one roommate declaring her intentions to leave the country for a while, we've all started the apartment search dance. And beginning, I thought I'd look for a two bedroom affair so I could have a roommate. But...well, maybe I don't want a roommate. Maybe I just want something that I don't have to worry about NEEDING to find someone else to go doubles in. I mean, sure, what Watson wouldn't tolerate or get along spiffingly with the right Holmesian roommate (And I am VERY much one of nature's Watsons)?

But once again, the idea of having a place that I can afford on my lonesome, and not have to worry about renting out a room, or who I can have over when and for how long and how many times--

So, one-bedroom/studios it is then. But good God, how nerve-racking! Is it the right size, layout, enough sockets, is the kitchen serviceable (A REQUIREMENT), is there a balcony (...which is quickly becoming a HUGE desire, I mean, I COULD GROW THINGS THEN. Have a reading nook for nice weather. BARBEQUE! I COULD BARBEQUE AGAIN!), is the neighborhood nice, is it closer to the subway than I am now, CAN I EVEN AFFORD THIS FUCKERY etc etc etc etc...

Also, there's a bit of a...lack of condos. Everything available is a co-op. ARGH! If I'm going to own something, it's going to be MINE, NOT a split in the shares of the entire building so then some board can tell me what's what. Nu-huh. NO THANKS.

ARGH I hope I find my Own True Apartment by April though. I'm going to be cultivating a nice ulcer until then.

I am a Holmes style horrible roommate. Honest to God.

I won't need to move until July and even then I don't know where I'll be going (Brooklyn or (sad face) North Jersey).

Depends where in Brooklyn. As you know, I am not super Brooklyn savvy.

I don't even know what type of roommate I am. I lived with the same people all through college so................. IDK.

Heh, I know I'm a slightly messy/lazy/accommodating one, who WILL clean up after the other person, so if you don't want your shit touched keep it the fuck out of the living room/kitchen.

And dishes always get washed after 2 days. ALWAYS. I will be grumbling a bit while I do it though.


Yea, I've got til beginning of May to find something. I'd LOVE to be able to afford a 2 bedroom, but it looks like it's a 1 bed/studio at best for me. However, EVERYONE CROSS YOUR FINGERS that it'll have a balcony. Even if it's a wee, wee one. If I'm going to buy it and live it in like, FOREVER, I think I really, really really really really need someplace to grow some plants. FOR REALZ.

I think you'd be happier in a 1 bedroom studio thing. It'll be a lot less stress and YOU CAN DO WHATEVER THE FUCK YOU WANT.

At this point? I'm like........ augh...... do I really want to clean up after roommates again? Not really. Do I really want to deal with their stuff EVERYWHERE AND THE JUICE ON THE FLOOR AND IDK EVERYTHING AUGH. It was LOVELY having someone to eat breakfast with and hang out with and go for adventures with but that was one roommate. Not freaking three. And we were practically married for four years anyway.

PLANTS. YOU NEED SPACE TO GROW PLANTS. AND BBQ. LIKE A BOSS.
