Alright friends with Netflix, lend me your ears and advice if you are able.

For the past week I have been trying to watch "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes" (disc 1). And three discs later, I face the same problem. They just won't play on any of my dvd playing programs on my computer. Actually, let me rephrase that: on Windows Media Player and Intervideo DVD, I get about, oh, 10 seconds of sound without visual. And then, nothing. On Media Player Classic I get audio and half visual. The other half is little squares of black and white static. And on every player, all I can get is the first 5-10 secs of the Granada TV introduction. Nothing more.

Now, the first two discs looked pretty ugly, scratch wise. I thought "oh, they must be damaged" though THAT much damage? And the same results? Curiouser and curiouser, my dear Watson, but I let it slide. I reported them, and returned them.

But this disc is pretty damned clean looking. So, I allowed myself a glimmer of hope. Hope that was DASHED upon the ROCKS the minute I put it in my computer. THE SAME DAMN THING HAPPENED.

'Well,' I thought to myself, 'Mayhaps it's my computer!'. So I toddled over to my roommate and she kindly let me test it on hers. And not only did the same thing occured but it SERIOUSLY froze her Mac and I nearly didn't get the disc back.

So, I think the next course of action is to try it in an actual DVD player, see if it works then. I not, I wash my hands of Sherlock Holmes (as much as it pains me to do so) and will hope for better luck with the movie Wilde.

But, you of my f-list with Netflix: have YOU ever had such bally rotten luck with their DVDs?
And what would you do in my place? I REALLY want to watch this series, damnit!

EDIT!!! IT LIVES!!! THE VLC MEDIA PLAYER I JUST DOWNLOADED WORKS!!! MWHAH! MWHAHAHHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!

Hey. Sorry for intruding (here via that whole friend's friend's list deal), but I'd download the VLC media player and try it with that. VLC is free, and it plays just everything. And I do hope you're able to get the disk to play, as it's a great show.

(I think I remember reading somewhere, the IMDB forums, maybe, that a number of the first disk's of The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes just plain didn't work. So it might also just be that you ended up with one of those bad disks.)

Hope some of that helped. Bye.
